Pre-camp CAD
Design your first kit piece at home.
This is not homework. It is the first move of the same process we run at camp. Ten to fifteen minutes. Browser only.
The tool: Tinkercad
Free, browser-based, Autodesk. No install. Works on laptop, tablet, or phone. Parent account manages anyone under 13.
Exact steps
- 01
Drop the cube
From the right panel, drag a Box onto the workplane. Set Length 20, Width 20, Height 20. Units are mm by default. Color it whatever you want.
- 02
Make the hole
Drag a Cylinder. Radius 3 (diameter 6 mm). Height 25 mm so it pokes through. Center it with Align. Set the cylinder to Hole.
- 03
Group
Select both. Group (Ctrl/Cmd + G). You now have a solid cube with a clean cylindrical hole.
- 04
Optional second axis
Duplicate the hole cylinder, rotate 90°, align through the center, set to Hole, Group. Now you have a 2-axis connector.
What to bring
- Screenshot of the finished design. Tinkercad share link (Share → Copy link).
- Notes on what you want to try next: bigger version, different hole, second feature.
Quick tips
- Stay in millimeters.
- Align is how you center holes.
- Undo is unlimited. Do not chase perfection. Start the loop.
- Name it something you can find: Liam Connector v1, Maya Cube.
